What a spectacular woman. I’m in awe of what Anais brought to this shoot. As a lifetime collector of lingerie, when arrived for her wardrobe styling session she had a bed full of tightly folded sets-of-pretty and vintage slips hanging everywhere. It was like walking into a lingerie boutique! We got to planning and had the toughest time narrowing down her looks. We ending up doing something crazy like 11 outfits in 7 hours, but I was in absolute heaven.

We decided to shoot on her property in a big old house that is about to be demolished and rebuilt. She set-up the living room as a bedroom and this place came ALIVE. Cracks, old window coverings, stunning wallpaper, 50 balloons hand delivered to us and an inspiration board that kept us going all day. Not to mention she left everything on the table, put 100% of her trust in me and told me to get creative. Anais is the type of client that just completely reinvigorates me. Thank you darling! You are a gift!

All my love,
Dana Kae

I LIVE for clients like Quinn. Unique. Creative. Raw. When Quinn reached out to me, I responded with an immediate and enthusiastic “Hell yes”! As much as I adore super feminine boudoir – my bread and butter – it is incredibly rewarding to be able to explore all gender expressions within boudoir. We brainstormed ways to mix both masculinity and femininity into the shoot that felt true to Quinn and their personal expression. A suit with heels, lingerie and muscles, lipstick with a mustache – literally what could be more fun! It was like instead of just half the crayon box, we got to use the whole set. What a blast.

I’m thrilled to be able to share these images and hopefully, challenge the “boudoir status quo” to show that boudoir is whatever, wherever, and however you need it to be. There is no rule book. Your photographs should be a true expression of YOU and that is all that matters. Everyone is different, sexy, and deserves to see it and feel it – let’s celebrate that!

All my love,
Dana Kae

My mother is an incredible woman. Strong, brave, talented, smart, stunning – she really has it all. She has taught me so much about what it means to be a confident and successful woman, yet I’ve always felt she didn’t quite feel the same way about herself. When she approached me about doing a shoot, I was thrilled. This was it, my chance to show her what the world has been seeing all this time. It’s been absolutely incredible to watch her transformation since the shoot. See our Q&A below:

What was the most challenging thing for you leading up to the shoot?

A shoot was all I wanted for my Mother’s Day gift in May 2013, but it was just recently that I finally booked a date and an AirBNB on the Oregon coast. For months I delayed and delayed because I wanted to lose a few pounds. Yet I gained ten. I knew I just had to trust in your talent. Time and time again I have seen you find the beauty in your subjects. I truly believed you could find that glimpse of “Ooo, who’s that?” I would occasionally see in the mirror. In any case, I finally stopped waiting on the weight and took the leap.

How did you feel after the shoot?

I still can’t believe the joy I felt that day and the days following. The overall experience was incredibly powerful and left me feeling more self-confident and sexy then I’ve felt in years and the feeling has lasted! Never, in my wildest dreams did I think my favorite photos would be in my bathing suit. In fact, the day of the shoot I wanted to scratch that outfit altogether for fear of showing too much but you insisted and I’m so glad you did because I love how free and open I look in those images. They remind me that I am still beautiful. I haven’t lost it, I had just forgotten. I am forever grateful for that. I’m even thinking about dating again! I’d liken this experience to a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Italy. It was that restorative and life altering.

What was the most surprising thing that came from the shoot for you?

It’s interesting because before the shoot, like I said, I was desperately trying to lose weight. Now, in the months following, I am finding the weight coming off easier than ever. I have a new compassion and respect for my body that wasn’t there before and am finally working in tandem with it, instead of against. Now that I know in my core that I’m beautiful, the rest comes easy. What a thought! I’ll absolutely be doing this again in the coming years to keep this feeling alive.

I am beyond thrilled that this experience did so much for her! I couldn’t be happier. I love you so much Mom! For all the other amazing Moms out there – treat yourself to a boudoir shoot this Mother’s day! Wherever you’re at, don’t worry about it being perfect, because perfect is now. You deserve to feel amazing. Believe me, you’re ready.

All my love,
Dana Kae
